Homework
One of the most important goals for First Grade is learning (and loving!) to read. Please encourage your child to read daily and continue to read to your child if they are struggling to read independently. I would encourage all families to obtain a Library Card and visit the Oak Lawn Public Library or the Alsip-Merrionette Park Library. Both facilities offer a wide variety of reading materials at whatever reading level your child may be. Please take advantage of RazKids and Lexia, online reading and phonics programs.
Homework will generally be a page of math that will reflect what was taught in school that day. These pages will be clearly marked as "Homework" and need to be returned to school the following day. Book Logs should be completed each night and returned to school the next day. Spelling tests will begin in a few weeks. Those words will be sent home on Monday and should be studied during the week for Friday's test.
