    The speech-language pathologists in Atwood Heights School District 125 are Erin Shannon and Daniella Cheek. They treat many types of communication problems including:

    *Articulation

    * Language

    *Social communication

    *Voice

    *Fluency

    Screenings are conducted during the fall and spring. If a concern is found, the student receives a targeted specific intervention that is carefully structured and designed to improve his or her communication difficulty. The intervention follows the guidelines of our District’s Response to Intervention (RTI) model. RTI is a process that provides a student with systematic, research-based instruction and intervention to address specific educational concerns. RTI is considered a general education service, but can also be implemented in special education settings.

    The Tier 2 intervention is provided by the speech pathologist. The frequency and duration of the intervention will be matched to the child’s needs and progress will be continually monitored. If adequate progress is not made in the Tier 2 intervention, eligibility for special education services would be considered.
