• Early Childhood Programs

Early childhood programs are available at Lawn Manor School. These programs include early childhood special education services, as well as, our general education Preschool For All program.  Children transitioning from Early Intervention services will be considered for participation in both of the district's early childhood programs.

Both half-day programs (2.5 hours) meet Monday through Friday and are located at Lawn Manor School. The morning session is offered from 8:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m.  The afternoon session is offered from 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.  Parents are responsible for providing transportation.  Transportation is provided by the district to all early childhood students who are eligible for special education services.

    Screenings

Families who are interested in consideration for the district’s early childhood programs should contact the school to schedule an early childhood screening.

Screenings are conducted on a regular basis throughout the year for children ages 3 through 5.  Our screening consists of a short, administered assessment tool, a speech screening, and a parent interview.  Please keep in mind that a child’s performance at this young age may vary from day to day.  As early educators, we are aware of these factors and even expect them.  Results of the screening will be shared with you.

The purpose of the screening is to identify all age three through five year old children who may have developmental delays and/or who would:

    1.  Benefit from special education services
    2.  Might be at risk for academic difficulties due to environmental, cultural, or social-economic factors.

The following areas of development are screened:  speech and language, motor skills, cognitive skills, vision, and hearing.

To determine eligibility for our Preschool For All program, we consider a number of factors including your child’s screening results.  Parents are interviewed to collect information about the child and family.  Using a weighted eligibility criteria, we will determine if your child qualifies for our Preschool For All program.  Priority for enrollment in our Preschool For All program will be offered to children who, because of their home and community environment, are subject to such language, cultural, economic, and like disadvantages that they are considered to be at risk of academic failure.  Parents of children who require further evaluation following their early childhood screening, will be contacted by the early childhood coordinator.

Please contact Lawn Manor school at (708) 423-3078 to inquire about our programs and schedule an early childhood screening.  Michelle Tosch, early childhood coordinator, can also be emailed at mtosch@ahsd125.org.
