P.E. STUDENT GUIDELINES
The Physical Education program at Hamlin strives to involve all students in a varied experience of physical fitness, competitive games, and development in areas of sportsmanship and good citizenship.
Each student participates in Physical Education classes every other day over three twelve-week marking periods in the academic year. A mid-term grade is given at each six-week mark to indicate the student’s progress to that point. They are expected to participate in all activities to the best of their individual ability and obey all guidelines of proper behavior.
All students enrolled at Hamlin must participate in Physical Education classes. Exceptions may be made for medical reasons ONLY if the parent writes an explanatory note to the P.E. teacher. Such notes are valid for up to two gym days. If a student must be excused for a longer period of time, the district must have a doctor’s written excuse on the doctor’s letterhead or prescription pad paper, with additional written information from the parent regarding the nature of the problem.
Students will be expected to remain with their P.E. class during “excused” periods. Those students without doctor’s excuses will be expected to do the written work assignment by the teacher during their active P.E. class.

DRESSING FOR CLASS – WHY WE THINK IT’S IMPORTANT!!!
- A class uniformly dressed in proper gym suits responds as a group and learns self discipline.

- Uniform gym wear meets safety standards and requirements for various kinds of competition or involvement.
- Gym suits save on excessive wear or damage to street clothes.
TO THE STUDENT AND PARENT

- Students will not enter the gym until given permission by the teacher.
- Dress within the time allotted by your teacher. Students are strictly prohibited in the changing room from:
- rough physical behavior
- swearing or inappropriate language

- stealing or vandalism
- using spray deodorants or hair spray
- eat or drinking
- After class, dress quickly for your next class.
- Take gym uniforms home every Friday for washing.
- Other than the student’s name, gym uniforms with any extra writing on them are not to be worn.
Physical Education Class Time Guidelines
- No food or drinks may be brought into the gym.
- Physical Education class is a “class” –not grade school recess time!
- No jewelry may be worn by boys and girls.
- Any student who may become injured in class should report directly to the teacher. Also, inform your teacher if you encounter any problems in class.
- PARTICIPATE! Do not look for an excuse to sit out. Jr. High students need daily exercise and conditioning. Physical Education class is usually your only opportunity during the school day to obtain such exercise.
- The following violation of good conduct will be dealt with directly by teacher: Fighting
- Swearing or foul language
- Threatening another student
- Never use any piece of equipment in any manner other the manner directed by the teacher. Do no throw equipment or attempt to damage it.
- Follow directions and avoid complaining! Do your best – that’s all anyone can ask of you. Display proper respect toward your P.E. teacher who works with the largest number of students each day in her class. No one wants to listen to a “complainer”.
