The Hamlin Math Team will continue to use Connected Mathematics 3 (CMP3). The overarching goal of Connected Mathematics 3 is to help students develop mathematical knowledge, conceptual understanding, and procedural skills, along with an awareness of the rich connections between math topics across grades and content areas. This curriculum aligns the programs' existing rigor and emphasis on constructing viable arguments to the common core standards.

Focus for the year: Students focus on problem-solving strategies, habits of mind, mathematical proficiency through problem-based approaches, alignment with the standards for mathematical practices, and daily reflections on mathematics.

Each day, the students in my class will transition between small groups, independent work, and whole-class instruction. Students will spend time working on self-guided writing, reading, and grammar while focusing on the mini-lesson topic taught during whole class instruction.

Students will spend the year focusing on 3 main styles of writing: Informational, Narrative, and Argumentative. Our novel studies for 2024-2025 are: Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, White Bird by R.J. Palacio, March book 1 by Andrew Aydin and John Lewis, and Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

    Classroom

6th grade geography (social studies) uses the Inquiry Design Model (IDM) as a foundation for all areas of study. The overall question for this class is: How do the five themes of Geography apply to the many unique and varying cultural and environmental characteristics of Earth?

Trimester 1: How do geographic representations explain relationships between locations and changes in the environment?

Trimester 2: How do humans affect their regional cultures and environment? What is the correlation between humans, the environment, and the population?

Trimester 3: How does location influence culture, routines, and experiences?
